MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging (or MRI) is a method that utilizes radio waves and a magnetic field to produce detailed images of tissues and organs within the body. Majority of MRI machines are big, tube-shaped magnets. When one lies inside the MRI machine, the magnetic field momentarily realigns the hydrogen atoms in the body.  The MRI machine can also be used to generate 3-D images that can be viewed from several different angles.

Why it’s done

MRI is a noninvasive technique for a top neurologist in Kolkata to examine the organs, skeletal system and tissues. It generates high-resolution images of the inside of the body that help diagnose a variety of problems.

MRI of the spinal cord and brain

MRI is the most commonly used imaging test of the spinal cord and brain. It is frequently performed to diagnose:

  • Aneurysms of cerebral vessels
  • Diseases of eye and inner ear
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Stroke
  • Tumors
